Payments Reality Check 2026: Why PSPs Reject New Brokers — and How to Get Approved

Forex and CFD brokerages, and increasingly prop firms, sit in the highest-risk merchant categories. In 2026 acquirers have tightened further: more scrutiny on licence status, source of funds, chargeback exposure and the people behind the company. The result is predictable — a brand-new company with no history applies for card acquiring and gets rejected, often without a reason. That is not a dead end. It is a sequencing problem.

·What a PSP actually checks

  • Corporate file: certificate of incorporation, registers of directors and shareholders, proof of address, structure chart — all current and consistent
  • Bank or EMI account in the company's name (no account, no acquiring)
  • Licence status — required by most card acquirers for FX/CFD; not required by most crypto gateways and many alternative PSPs
  • Website compliance: terms, refund and risk disclosures, KYC flow, geo-blocking of restricted markets
  • Processing history or a realistic volume forecast with a rolling reserve

·The stack that works for a new launch

  • Week 1: crypto gateway (USDT TRC-20/ERC-20) integrated into the CRM — bank-independent, fast settlement, accepted by most of your first clients in LATAM, Africa and Asia
  • Weeks 2–6: EMI/bank account and the full corporate file; this is the long pole, start immediately
  • Months 2–4: alternative PSP or card acquiring for the markets where crypto is restricted; expect a rolling reserve and higher fees at first
  • Later: local payment methods per market (PIX, UPI, bank transfer rails) once volume justifies the integration

·Crypto payouts: the 2026 numbers

Industry trackers reported crypto payouts to funded traders roughly doubling year on year to about USD 115 million in Q1 2026. The direction is clear: for prop firms, crypto is the default payout rail, and traders expect it. For brokerages, crypto deposits remove the first-month dependency on card acquiring entirely.

·Costs to budget

Crypto gateway setup is typically low or free with per-transaction fees around 0.5–1%. Card acquiring for high-risk merchants runs materially higher, plus rolling reserves of 5–10% held for 90–180 days. Build those into your first-year cash plan before you pick a platform.
